PONY All stars

WHAT IS ALL-STARS?

At the end of the Spring season, PONY (the parent organization for T&C Softball) hosts All Star Tournaments for their South Division (which T&C falls under). There are two levels of All Stars:

  • Recreational (or traditional)
  • Platinum (started last year and is for open or select teams)

For Recreational All Stars, this includes three tournaments:

  • Sectionals
  • Regionals
  • Nationals

Sectionals is for teams playing in the Central Texas area. If a team places well enough in Sectionals, they will advance to Regionals which includes the San Antonio area. If a team places well enough in Regionals they will advance to Nationals (either in Louisiana or Texas depending on whether the team is fast pitch or slow pitch (Shetland - 6U and Pinto- 8U are slow pitch).

For Platinum All Stars a team will have to qualify for Nationals in a tournament, but there are no set Sectionals or Regional tournaments for them to participate.

ALL STARS AT TOWN & COUNTRY

For Recreational All-Stars, team are formed from the more skilled / experienced players from the Spring season. There can be one or more All-Star team from each division (e.g., U6, U8, etc.) if there are enough players nominated and interested in playing. The actual selection process is specified in the Softball Bylaws (see the Documents page for details), but in general, players will be nominated by their coach and/or opposing coaches during the Spring season. Depending on how many girls are nominated per division, the coaches will get together and select the 12 players to represent T&C in each division. In some divisions, there may be enough players to form two teams. In this case, there will be an "A" team and a "B" team.

For Platinum All Stars, the 10U and 12U Open League teams will participate at this level if the teams desire. The 8U Open League team will participate in Recreational All Stars.

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

All Stars is a big commitment for both the player and parent. All-Star teams will practice 3 to 4 times per week once school is out. They may play in 1 to 3 warm-up tournaments locally before the official All-Star tournaments begin in June. A team may play in up to 3 All-Star tournaments depending on how far the team advances. All Stars is a lot of fun and is worth the commitment, but if you don't think your daughter or you can make the commitment (e.g., vacations, other summer activities, etc.), please let your coach know that you are not interested. If your daughter is interested in All Stars, but will miss some practice time due to a vacation, etc.this will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis prior to selection to the team.
