WHEN IS SOFTBALL PLAYED AT TOWN & COUNTRY?
Softball is played both in the Spring and Fall seasons.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE FALL SEASON?
The Fall season is the "less competetive" season. In general, 8 to 10 games are played (8 games is normal) during the season. During the fall, there can be up to 3 “outings“ per week where an outing is defined as a game, scrimmage, or a practice. Thus, prior to the start of games, a coach may have 1 to 3 practices per week (2 would be reasonable in most cases). After games start, there will generally be 1 game and 1 to 2 practices per week depending on the coach. Scores and standings are not kept and more emphasis is placed on instruction and playing different positions.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING THE SPRING SEASON?
The Spring season is the “competitive“ season. In general, 12 to 16 games are played (12 games is normal) during season. During the spring, there can be up to 4 “outings“ per week where an outing is defined as a game, scrimmage, or a practice. Thus, prior to the start of games, a coach may have 2 to 4 practices per week (2 to 3 would be reasonable in most cases). After games start, there will generally be 2 games and 1 to 2 practices per week depending on the coach. Scores are kept, more emphasis is placed on winning, and standings are kept in most leagues.

WHAT AGE GROUP LEAGUES ARE AVAILABLE AT TOWN & COUNTRY?
There are several levels of softball available at Town & Country. T-Ball (Shetland or U6) is for girls aged 5 through 6. In this league, girls hit off a softball tee. Coach Pitch (Pinto or U8) is for girls age 7 to 8. In this league, the team's coach pitches to the girls. Fast pitch (Mustang or 10U) is for girls age 9 to 10 and is the first league where a player pitches to the batters. Fast pitch (Bronco or 12U) is for girls age 11 and 12.  Fast pitch is for (Pony/Colt) or girls ages 13-16.

HOW DOES T&C DETERMINE WHAT AGE DIVISION MY DAUGHTER WILL PLAY IN?
T&C is a Pony affiliated organization and Pony rules dictate ages for each division.  Pony ages are based on the child’s age at the beginning of the year, so if a girl is 12 on January 1st, she is eligible to play in the 12 and under age level.  Since the Spring season is the “official” season for softball, our registration system is configured to automatically move girls up to the next level if they will be age eligible for that level during the following spring season.  However, unless there is a safety concern, we are happy to allow girls to play in the fall at their existing age level if requested by the parents.  We may also allow girls to play “up” in a higher division as long as we determine them to be competent and safe to play at that level.  Any parents wanting their child to play in an age division different from what the registration system automatically puts them in, can send an email to the office, player agent, or any board member to make that request, and we will generally honor those requests as long as safety is not a concern.  Click for Age Chart.

WHEN ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Games are held during the week and on Saturdays.

WHEN ARE PRACTICES?
Practice days and times are determined by the coach. Any day of the week is possible, including Sunday afternoon.

HOW DO I REGISTER MY DAUGHTER FOR SOFTBALL?
Online registration is available through the Town and Country Optimist Softball website. For more details, see the “Registration“ section on the main Softball webpage.

WHAT COMES WITH OUR REGISTRATION FEE?
Your registration fee includes a jersey. Parents are required to buy helmets (with a facemask and chinstrap), cleats, and gloves. Once the team is formed you will need to purchase pants and socks.  We strongly encourage the use of fielding masks for all softball girls starting at Pinto and up to have these girls as safe as possible.

WHAT IS TOWN & COUNTRY SOFTBALL'S REFUND POLICY?
There will be no refunds given once the season starts. There will be a 10% admin fee deducted on ALL refunds. If you request a refund after team formation there will be a 25% fee deducted along with the 10% admin fee. No refunds are given because of team placement. No refunds are given for decals, late fees, or donations.

WHAT IS PONY?
PONY stands for Protect Our Nation's Youth and is a national organization of softball and baseball. Currently, T&C Softball is registered with the PONY organization and in general follows PONY rules.

WHERE ARE GAMES PLAYED?
Home games are played on one of the softball fields at Town & Country. There are occasions where T&C teams play teams from other leagues such as Leander-Cedar Park (LCP), Georgetown, Balcones, etc. Thus, some travel (within the Austin area) may be required when a T&C team plays at one of these other league's home fields.

WHERE ARE PRACTICES HELD?
Practice locations are up to the coach. Many coaches reserve fields at Town & Country while other coaches use city, county, or neighborhood parks in the surrounding area.

HOW DO I BECOME A COACH?
You will have an opportunity to register as a coach or assistant coach within your registration.  Please note that if you are picked to coach or assistant coach you will be required to register for a background check as well.  This is a separate step from your volunteer coach/assistant coach registration.

HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED FOR THE SHETLAND DIVISION?
Team selection for Shetland (6U) is formed with no draft and made by proximity. An attempt will be made to honor buddy requests, but those requests CANNOT be guaranteed.

HOW ARE TEAMS FORMED FOR THE PINTO(8U), MUSTANG (10U), AND UP DIVISIONS?
Town and Country Softball is dedicated to providing a safe and fun experience to our players.  We understand that league balance and fair competition are keys to a good experience for all recreational players.  Team formation will be done in such a way as to insure balance while working to honor friend and coaching requests.  Each team will be allowed 2 protected players, assumed to be the daughters of the head coach and 1 assistant coach.  A skills assessment and team draft process will happen each season for all age groups from 8u – 16u.  It will be up to the coaches in each division to work together to honor as many requests as possible while maintaining team balance.

DOES THE TEAM TAKE PICTURES?
Pictures are taken in the Spring season only and you are responsible for the payment of the pictures.

DOES MY TEAM GET A TROPHY AT THE END OF THE SEASON?
Trophies are provided in the spring season only.
